Vernon Township Fire & EMS Makes Smart Choice With Smart Lockers From VendNovation
Vernon Township Fire & EMS is a full-service department in the northwest corner of Hancock County, Indiana. It covers Fortville, McCordsville, and the unincorporated rural area of Vernon Township.
The fire & EMS department consists of two stations and is equipped to respond to emergency medical incidents, automobile crashes, structure fires, hazardous materials releases, technical rescue incidents and public assistance calls. In order to comply with a controlled substance mandate issued by the state of Indiana, the Vernon Township Fire Department installed banks of 12, 18, and 24 smart lockers from VendNovation. Workers had been eyeing the system since they started the EMS division of the fire department back in 2020.
24-Hour Access, Better Tracking
The EMS crew originally had only a small closet for all restock options, which made it challenging to track items and keep supplies efficiently stocked. The installation vastly expanded the Vernon Township Fire Department’s ability to keep supplies organized, improved accountability for items used, and lowered operational costs as a result. Notifications for when items are running low means no one runs out of necessary supplies due to restocking issues, and the immediate tracking of items used keeps the department in compliance with the Indiana state mandates for in house narcotic storage.
According to Kiely Culberson, EMS Chief, the primary benefit realized by installing the solution from VendNovation was the “cost reduction from accountability of items used”.
